Dear Visitor,

The comprehensive protection of the rights of the children remains a challenge in the Albanian society. Indeed, a large number of Albanian children continue to face various forms of violation such as trafficking, exploitation and abuse.

Several State institutions and governmental and non – governmental organizations are working to develop a child protection safety network to address this phenomenon. In order to better coordinate their efforts, some of these organizations have established a coalition under the name of “All Together against Child Trafficking” (Albanian abbreviation “BKTF”). The overall leitmotiv of the Coalition is to act with determination and devotion ‘in accordance with the principle “the best interest of the child”.

The BKTF Coalition consists of nineteen national and international non-governmental organizations, working in Albania, assisting and protecting the vulnerable Albanian children. In geographic terms the members of BKTF Coalition are working in areas such as Tirana, Durrės , Elbasan, Korēa, Shkodėr, Fier, Vlorė , Kukės, Berat, Gjirokastėr etc. The coalition is also supported by an advisory board, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labor Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, OSCE, UNICEF, ILO, USAID, IOM and CAAHT.

The purpose of the BKTF Coalition is to join efforts and take advantage of the experience of its members in advocating for the development of national strategies against child trafficking, establishment and enforcement of child protection mechanisms and improvement of services delivered to children, who are victims of trafficking, abuse or exploitation as well as at risk children.

BKTF has already contributed to the drafting of some crucial documents such as: the National Strategy for Combating Child Trafficking and Protecting Child Victims of Trafficking and the Standards of Social Services for Children and for Trafficked persons. In addition, the Coalition has played a role both in advocating for and drafting the agreement between the Government of Albania and the Government of Greece regarding the protection of Albanian children trafficked to Greece.

BKTF also focuses its efforts in addressing internal exploitation and trafficking of Albanian children. BKTF has launched two awareness-raising campaigns during 2007-2008 on child exploitation which subjects children who beg. The objectives of the campaigns are to reduce child trafficking and to increase the citizens' awareness on this phenomenon, its consequences on children and their own civil and legal responsibility in this phenomenon. For further information on these campaigns you can find information in www.ndalshfrytezimittefemijeve.org. The launching of this website goes hand in hand with the efforts to further consolidate the work already done by the Coalition members. Their work and services intend to protect and promote children who are victims of exploitation and abuse as well as the at risk children. The Coalition has also contributed to the conception of the standard definitions, which will be used for data collection and child-trafficking databases.

This website aims to better inform you on the initiatives of the Coalition, the services provided by its members, state agencies and inter-governmental organizations, as well as other members of the Albanian civil society. We highly encourage you to contact us and our members through this website, regarding any issue related to child exploitation and child abuse in Albania.

Under this framework the Coalition highly appreciates and welcomes the children's contributions to the rubrics of this website and the activities of this Coalition.
